Councillor Rebecca Poulsen, Leader of the Conservative Group said, “My colleagues and I were saddened to hear that Captain Sir Tom Moore had passed away following a battle with Covid19 and pneumonia.
He was the perfect example of putting the people of the Country before himself from the early days of his military service to his recent, inspirational efforts to help in the battle against Covid19. He was a true hero and inspiration to us all.
Councillor Russell Brown added, “I was privileged to meet him when he and his family came to Keighley to receive his Freedom of the Town and unveil our plaque to Ian Dewhurst . He told us he was proud to be a Keighley lad ,as per our tribute to him, and his early life experiences were a solid foundation to his life. A truly modest gentleman with a twinkle in his eye, an icon we could all respect”
Councillor Poulsen concluded, “Our condolences to his family at such a sad time” and the entire Keighley & Ilkley Conservative Association wishes to pay its respects to Captain Sir Tom who was a truly incredible 'Keighley Lad'.
